- The most common call we received in northern Virginia this time of year is for gray squirrels or flying squirrels in the attic area of your home, this is a very common situation and one that should not be overlooked. Gray squirrels calls much damage to your insulation, wiring, duct work, and all structural wood that is located in the attic area of your home. With squirrels being classified as a rodent their front teeth always grow the chewing and gnawing that is heard from time to time is from the grey squirrel or flying squirrel chewing on wood and other structural specific pieces of your home.
Damage to your Insulation in your Attic
squirrels do damage to your Northern Virginia’s home by running and jumping in trampling the insulation down, thus affecting the R factor of the insulation. The thicker insulation is in your attic the more heat your insulation retains in the living space of your home. If a squirrel or other nuisance wildlife animal in northern Virginia gets in your attic area and tramples your insulation down he inadvertently affects your heating and cooling bills because the insulation has been smashed and no longer has a R factor that is efficient for heating and cooling. This should be remediated as soon as possible. If the R factor in your attic is not up to standard it will take twice as much energy to heat your home as normal. This will make your energy bill almost double.
