How do I know I have squirrels in my attic?
The first thing you will notice is that you are seeing a large amount of squirrels hanging around your house. You may see the world running up and down your roofline, your gutters, in your attached decks. The next thing you will notice is a large amount of noise coming from your attic area. This could include scratching, running, jumping, squealing, and thrashing. All of this is very common when squirrels first occupy your attic area. What they are going at this point is finding a suitable place to have their babies. In Virginia squirrels can have up to three litters of babies each year. The first litter of babies will be in early spring, the next litter of babies can be in late August, then the final litter of babies can occur in mid-November. This is dependent upon the food source that is specific to your location. If there is not a lot of food for the squirrels to eat, then the litter of babies will probably only be two. Some of the things you can do to dissuade squirrels from taking up residence in your attic are, placing your bird feeder well away from the house, make sure all your gable vent’s have screening, make sure all your wooden fascia boards are covered with metal and last but definitely not least, cut away all overhanging branches that connect to the house. This is a prime path for the squirrels to gain access to your rooftop. Once again don’t let the squirrels of Roanoke overtake your house. Give us a call today.
